Pretty good season so far, other than the two ridiculous losses to Santa Clara and NMSU. Unless we make even more progress, this team looks like one who could win the NIT (not that anyone cares about the National Invitation Tournament). The Lobos did it. Now a relatively unproven Montana team. That could be good or bad. We remember Air Force taking New Mexico to the wire a couple of times. We recall losing to Oral Roberts. Anything can and does happen in the NCAA tournament. This Lobo team won a bunch of games, went on great win streaks and now earned the #3 seed. The rest is the future. One and done. Time for another streak. Category: NCAAB Tags: Lobo Basketball
ESPN and MWC fall outScore: 87March 12, 2010 1:18 pm
I heard there was a bit of a falling out between the MWC and ESPN last summer and consequently no TV coverage for the fourth best basketball conference in the country (yes I think the MWC is overall more competitive than the ACC). Money, once again, prevents the country from appreciating what is best about "amateur" sport. The MWC has hurt players like Darington Hobson who deserve exposure. Hopefully The Lobos will make a deep run in the tourney and compensate for not getting much national press all season. If the Pac-10 gets 2 teams in it will be proof positive that TV exposure during the respective conference tournaments is the key to getting an invite to the big dance. ESPN just predicted U Dub will go to the tourney with a 1-1 record Vs AP 25 teams and an 11-7 record in an undeniably weak PAC-10 conference. Mean-while San Diego St. is "on the bubble" with fewer overall losses, 11-5 in the MWC and 2-3 Vs. AP top 25 teams. Obviously the Aztecs have played a tougher schedule but nobody, including the coaches, who make up the most influential, poll knows it. Go LOBOS! and Go MWC! I'm hearing warm fuzzies from ESPN concerning the MWC and the possibility of getting four teams in the NCAA Tournament. Too bad I couldn't find any of today's games on TV here in Mizzo, not even XM. I was reduced to watching the tickertape at the bottom of the ESPN screen again. But, did you see that tickertape today? They actually had the MWC scores mixed in with the other major conferences in alphabetical order: ACC - Big 12 - Big East - Big Ten - MWC - Pac 10 - SEC - followed by all the other conference scores only when they got around to those others. Thank You ESPN! I promise to support your sponsors. That was demonstrating big time respect for the MWC and that is both deserving and appreciated. It looked so right to see the MWC mixed in with the rest of the country and have the who;e country represented coast to coast. GOOD STUFF
In other action around the country, Syracuse lost in the first round of the Big East Tournament. Some think that this plus their recent loss to Louisville won’t affect their chances for a number (1) seed. What do you think? Should there not be consequences for teams taking the weekend off? Do these conference tournaments mean anything when there are no incentives to do well? If a (1) seed was already a lock, why even play the tournament, right? I guess they didn’t.

I believe we have to wait for the brackets to come out frist to predict anthing, cause there are 1 or 2 6 or 7 seeds I think that could giv us trouble, but if they match ups are favoriable I could see a elite 8 apperance which would do so much for this program. Another thing us Lobos fan have to hope for is that more of these non favored teams continue to win their conferences, because the big east teams that continue to struggle will be left out. I think if we get a match up againest a Kansas State, Villanova, Purdue, or Syracuse we have a shot at those teams cause they are athletic and will run the court with us. BIG KEY FACTOR THAT WILL HAVE TO HAPPEN IN THE TOURNEMENT IS FOR WILL BROWN AND AJ HARDEMAN TO STAY OUT OF FOUL TROUBLE IN THE SAME GAME!!!! WE CAN NOT AFFORD TO HAVE CHAD ADAMS IN THERE AGAINEST THE BIG MAN, WE WIL GET EATIN ALIVE. Category: NCAAB |
